About This Spot

Walking into Hector's feels like stepping into a small, warm corner of Mexico tucked right inside Wauwatosa. The space is humble and cozy, inviting you to slow down and savor the unpretentious rhythm of a casual local eatery where genuine hospitality takes center stage. It’s the kind of place where the bustle gently hums along without overwhelming — a neighborhood haven where familiar faces blend easily with newcomers, and the focus is on sharing good food and relaxed moments.

The atmosphere carries a quiet joy, heightened by the steady aroma of spices mingling with the earthy warmth of fresh corn tortillas and simmering sauces. Whether you settle inside or choose to enjoy the fading light on the patio, the mood calls for savoring each bite and every sip at a comfortable, unhurried pace. There's an easy friendliness in the air — the kind that makes you feel rightly taken care of without fanfare.

Here, the food isn’t just a menu but a heartfelt conversation with tradition and flavor. From the satisfying crunch of chips paired with salsa that strikes a perfect balance of brightness and depth, to the hearty portions of street tacos and enchiladas that carry a subtle, homey richness — each dish invites you to linger. The drinks, especially the margaritas, add a refreshing brightness that complements the meal and atmosphere perfectly. It’s a place where simple, authentic ingredients come together with thoughtful touches: a spicy kick here, a smoky note there, all melding to create a comforting and familiar experience.

In a city full of options, Hector’s quietly stands out for its ability to feel like a dependable friend—a spot where food, drink, and friendly service come together to create moments worth returning to, whether for a leisurely lunch or a sunset dinner. The small size of the venue adds to the charm, making it feel intimate rather than rushed, just the right pace to take in the flavors and the company.

Hector's was a staple for me when I lived in Milwaukee years ago. Stopped for lunch and had a taco salad. My husband had the Al Pastor tacos. Taco salad was so big I took half home for dinner. Everything was just as tasty as years ago. Prices were reasonable. Staff was friendly. The place is small but cozy. A great place still after all these years.

We ate outside on the last nice day in Milwaukee for a while and watched the sunset. The pitcher of margaritas was perfection. The stuffed jalapeno appetizer stole the show. The fish tacos were delicious and everyone loved the enchiladas.

The food was very good, the waitress was amazing above and beyond! The chips were warm and tasty, and their salsa is absolutely delicious. I had the chicken tostada, and my husband had the pork Verde enchiladas. I enjoyed my dish. My husband wanted more flavor in the sauce, but it was good. Margaritas are fabulous!!! Get there early. Parking in back of building. This place is tiny inside, and it gets very busy. The bar fills up quickly.

Great stop for some Mexican dishes. Not special inside, but the service was good, food was plentiful and tasty. Loved the salsa that came with chips when we sat down. I had carne asada tacos and they hit the spot with a Dos Equis. Check it out.

We enjoyed a great lunch at Hector’s! Nice outdoor seating, nice lunch specials, and, of course, very tasty seasonal margarita flavors! We had the watermelon and pineapple and both were delicious. The service is always friendly and attentive. A favorite Tosa spot!
